From Old French geuse, josier, from Vulgar Latin *gusia or *gausia (compare Italian gozzo (gizzard), Friulan gose, Romanian guşă (maw, gullet)), from Late Latin geusiae, from Gaulish geusiae (compare Welsh gewai (glutton)).
