From Old French geuse, josier, from Vulgar Latin *gusia or *gausia (compare Italian gozzo (“gizzard”), Friulan gose, Romanian guşă (“maw, gullet”)), from Late Latin geusiae, from Gaulish geusiae (compare Welsh gewai (“glutton”)).
