Etymology[edit]

From Middle English grapsen, unmetathesised version of graspen (to grasp), from Old English *grǣpsian. Compare to it's equally unmetathesised cognates German Low German grapsen (to grab; grasp), German grapsen, Saterland Frisian Grapse (double handful).
