From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *griś-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *gwer-s- (to raise one’s voice, lift up a cry; set up a clamour). Cognate to Lithuanian gar̃sas (call, sound). Also compare Old English gröetan (assail, greet), Old High German gruozen (weeping, cry).
