Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish خدمه (ḫademe),[1] plural of خادم (ḫadım, a man servant, a servant), from Arabic خَادِمْ (ḵādim, domestic servant, employee), active participle of خَدَمَ (ḵadama, to serve).[2]
