Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish هلیك (helik), from a form of Ancient Greek χᾰ́λῐξ (khálix). Compare modern Greek χαλίκι (chalíki).

helik (definite accusative heliği, plural helikler)
- small stones used in masonry
- (dialect) various small objects such as seeds, pebbles, and pieces of brick or stone
