From Old Persian *𐏃𐎢𐎶 (hauma-) (compare 𐏃𐎢𐎶𐎺𐎼𐎥𐎠 (haumavargā)), from Proto-Iranian *hauma- (compare Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬊𐬨𐬀 (haoma), Sogdian [script needed] (xwm)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sauma- (compare Sanskrit सोम (sóma)).
