Etymology

From Latin inflātiō, inflātiōnem, and therefore a doublet of inflação, a later borrowing. Equivalent to inchar +‎ -ção. Compare Spanish hinchazón, Italian enfiagione, dialectal French enflaison, archaic Romanian umflăciune.
