Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Andalusian Arabic جَبَلِي (jabalī), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Arabic خِنْزِير (ḵinzīr, pig) جَبَلِيّ (jabaliyy, of the mountains), from جَبَل (jabal, mountain).

Cognate with Galician xabaril, xabarín, Asturian xabalín, Spanish jabalí (whence English javelina) and Aragonese chabalin.
