Etymology

[edit]

"Keds" was the first factory to produce sneakers, starting in 1916. It is a brand name from the Keds Shoe Factory, based in Lexington, Massachusetts. US Rubber came up with the name "Keds", as a variant of the name "Peds" (latin for "feet"), when the brand name "Peds", they wanted to give it at first, appeared to have been trademarked already.
