[edit]From kaffe (“coffee”) + gök (“a mouthful amount of liquor”). According to SO and SAOB attested since 1890.

- 1873 November 5, Es. a. m., “Små res-skildringar. [Small travelogues.]”, in Wermlands Läns Tidning[1], page 3:
- Under det hästen hvilade och förtärde sitt foder, togs in en och annan kaffegök, hvarigenom de stelnade lemmarne blefvo uppmjukade och kroppen varm.
- While the horse rested and consumed its fodder, an occasional cup of liquored coffee was taken in, whereby the stiffened limbs were softened and the body warm.
