Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Bodo-Garo *mei, from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *r-may (“tail”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r-maj ~ m-raj. Cognate with Atong (India) di•may, Burmese အမြီ (a.mri), Tibetan རྨེད (rmed), Nuosu ꂪ (hmy), Chinese 尾, Mizo mei, Chepang मेः (meʔ), S'gaw Karen မဲၢ် (meẖ).
