Etymology[edit]

From the same stem as the verb lemt ‎(to decide, to resolve) (q.v.) in its old meaning, “to break.” Cognates include Lithuanian lẽmežis ‎(plowshare; part of the plow where the plowshare fits), Russian лемех ‎(lémex, plowshare), Czech lemes, Polish lemiesz.[1]
