[edit]From older llinyatge (via palatal dissimilation of /ʎ–ɲ/ to /ʎ–n/),[1] from Old Catalan linyatge (via regular palatalization of initial /l/), from Vulgar Latin *līneāticum, from Latin līnea (“line, thread”).
