From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French leitrun, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Medieval Latin lectrinum, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin lectrum, from lēctus, perfect passive participle of legō (I read). The noun was influenced by lu, past participle of lire, from a similar root.
