Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish مستأجر (müstecir, “one who seeks protection”), from Arabic مُسْتَأْجِر (mustaʔjir), active participle of اِسْتَأْجَرَ (istaʔjara, “to engage for rent”).
