Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Pronunciation
[edit]- IPA(key): /ˈmɑnsikːɑi̯nen/, [ˈmɑ̝ns̠ikˌkɑ̝i̯ne̞n]
- Rhymes: -ɑinen
- Syllabification(key): man‧sik‧kai‧nen
Adjective
[edit]mansikkainen (comparative mansikkaisempi, superlative mansikkaisin)
- strawberryish (including strawberries to the extent that it characterizes the taste and feel of a food or drink)
- strawberryish (having the aroma of strawberry)
Usage notes
[edit]- A technical adjective for "including strawberries" is mansikkapitoinen.
- When talking about taste, the use of the word mansikkainen usually indicates that the taste occurs naturally. The presence of actual strawberry is not a must, as e.g. a wine may be mansikkainen. In connection with artificial strawberry aroma, mansikanmakuinen is a better choice for adjective.
