- (linguistics) metaphony
- (in Asturian specifically) a vocalic phenomenon that closes stressed vowels due to the influence of a final u or i to give emphasis to a word, present in most central Asturian dialects, closing differently depending on the dialect. Sometimes, this can give different meanings to a word, but this is usually not represented in standard writing.
- Yes un gochu ― You are dirty.
- Yes un guchu ― You are very dirty. (closing of stressed o → u)
- Isti pirru ye míu. ― This one dog (and no other) is mine. (closing of stressed e → i)
- Voi pa isi preu ― I'm going to this one field (this one!). (closing of stressed a → e)
