Inherited from Proto-Mongolic *mïkan, perhaps related to Proto-Turkic *bïkïn (thigh).

Cognate with Mongolian мах (max), Kalmyk махн (maxn), Buryat мяхан (mjaxan) and perhaps Kazakh мықын (myqyn).
