Inherited from Proto-Mongolic *mïkan, perhaps related to Proto-Turkic *bɨkɨn(thigh).

Cognate with Mongolian мах(mah), Kalmyk махн(maxn), Buryat мяхан(mjaxan) and perhaps Kazakh мықын(mıqın).
