Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly an expressive creation based on a root miș- (cf. mișuna (to swarm, teem)). Alternatively, linked to mișui or Slavic mesiti ("to mix"). Another improbable theory suggests a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *musaroneus, from mus arāneus.[1]
