Etymology[edit]

Proposed by some to be related to mugti (to make noise), mugoti (to look at the mud with a squint), muguliuoti (to move, to travel), mugšis (doubting and covered man), mugiuoti (to be a cover), and Latvian mudzēt (to crowd, to teem), ultimately of onomatopoeic origin.
