From Proto-Tai *mwɯːᴬ (hand). Cognate with Thai มือ (mʉʉ), Northern Thai ᨾᩨ, Lao ມື (mư̄), ᦙᦹ (mue), Shan မိုဝ်း (múe), Aiton မိုဝ် (müw), Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜤𑜈𑜫 (müw), Saek มื๊อ. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *qalima (hand).
