From Proto-Southwestern Tai *mɯːᴬ⁴ (“hand”), from Proto-Tai *mwɯːᴬ (“hand”). Cognate with Thai มือ (mʉʉ), Northern Thai ᨾᩨ, Lü ᦙᦹ (mue), Shan မိုဝ်း (múe), Aiton မ︀ိုဝ︀် (müw), Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜤𑜈𑜫 (müw), Zhuang mwz, Saek มื๊อ. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *(qa)lima (“hand”).
