Luxembourgish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Middle High German niwan, from Old High German niwan. The -m- perhaps by assimilation to the onset. Alternatively from a conflation with a reduced doublet *man (< *nwan < niwan) or with *mer (< *nwær < niwære). Compare for the former northern German man (“only”), for the latter Central Franconian mär, Dutch maar, German nur.
