[edit]Inherited from Old Catalan nuvol, from Latin nūbilum (“cloud”), substantivization of Latin nūbilus (“cloudy”), an adjective based on Latin nūbēs (“cloud”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)newdʰ- (“to cover”). Compare Occitan nívol, Spanish nublo.
