Past participle of naște. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *nāscūtus, from Latin nāscor. Compare Aromanian nãscut, Catalan and Occitan nascut, Dalmatian nascoit, Friulian nassût, Ladin nascù, Romansh naschiu.
