Etymology

From Latin nebula, through a contracted Vulgar Latin form *nebla. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *nébʰos (cloud). Compare Sicilian negghia, Venetian nebia, Spanish niebla, Romanian negură and Aromanian nigurã.Doublet of nebula, which was borrowed.
