Central Franconian

Etymology

From Old High German neman, from Proto-Germanic *nemaną. Compare German nehmen, Dutch nemen, Old English niman.

Pronunciation

Verb

nemme (third-person singular present nemmp, past tense nohm, past participle jenomme)

  1. (Ripuarian) to take

Usage notes

  • Virtually all dialects of Moselle Franconian lack this verb, using hole, holle instead.
  • The second and third persons singular of the present have a vowel change /ɛ/ → /e/, which is not reflected in spelling.
