Etymology

(Note that there is no Polish word *chlujny.) Related to Russian холя (xolja, care, attention), холуй (xoluj, obsequious overattentive servant), and also Polish schludny (neat, tidy), from chludzić (to clean thoroughly, to have high standards of cleanliness).
