It is then from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Saxon niudlīko (“eagerly”) (compare Old English nēodlīċe), derived from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Saxon niud, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic *neudaz (“desire, drive, urge”), equivalent to nied + -lich.
