[edit]The sense "catkin" is through the development "to flow, drip" → "(tapered) tip" → "catkin";[1] the word is derived from Proto-Finnic *norkudak (“to flow, drip”) (compare Estonian nõrguma, Karelian norkkuo, Veps norkaita).
