  1. a flare used to signal distress, usually at sea and shining red
  2. (slang, chiefly in the plural) a can or bottle of beer bought at a regular store, in Sweden by law allowed to contain up to 3.5% alcohol by volume, as a substitute after failing to get stronger alcohol at the government-owned liquor store chain Systembolaget (e.g. having missed its opening hours)
