[edit]From Ottoman Turkish اوطون, اودون, from اود (“fire”). Ultimately derived from Proto-Turkic *ōt (“fire”). Compare Old Turkic 𐽰𐽳𐾀𐽳𐽺𐽷 (ʾwtwnk /otuŋ/, “firewood”).
