[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *okunь. Equivalent to oko (“eye”) + -oun.[1] Possibly derived from the fact that eyes of a perch fished up from a large depth tend to bulge out because of the sudden pressure change.[2]
