Old Irish

Etymology

From Proto-Celtic *orgeti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃erg- (perish). Cognate with Hittite 𒄯𒀝𒍣 (ḫar-ak-zi /⁠ḫarkzi⁠/) and Old Armenian հարկնանեմ (harknanem, strike).[1]
