Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Eastern Algonquian *paxkəši·kan, from Proto-Algonquian *paθk-eš-i·kan-i.[1] Equivalent to páxkshum (to cut through) +‎ -íikan (instrumental suffix). Cognate with Unami paxkshikàn (knife), Mahican xíikan (knife).
