Etymology

From Guernsey Norman pieuvre (introduced or popularised by Victor Hugo; cf. also Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "ONF." is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF.). Ultimately from Latin polypūs, from Ancient Greek πολύπους (polúpous, several feet). Doublet of poulpe.
