Etymology
From Old Galician-Portuguese peollo, from Late Latin peduclus < peduculus, variant of Latin pēdīculus, diminutive of pēdis (“louse”), from Proto-Indo-European *pezd-. Compare Galician piollo, Spanish piojo.
