Pacoh[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Katuic *psaj, *phaj, from Proto-Mon-Khmer. Cognate with Bahnar phei, Khmer ភេ (phei), Mon ဖေံ, Vietnamese rái.

For some other cases where Pacoh (and Katuic in general) has /s/ while other Austroasiatic languages have /h/, see also xay (full, sated), kixay (moon). Although Shorto (2006) chiefly reconstructed these cognate sets with *h, Katuic (and, in this case, also Vietic) is probably conservative, with other branches underwent debuccalization.
