Pacoh

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Katuic *psaj, *phaj, from from Proto-Austroasiatic *bɕeʔ. Cognate with Bahnar phei, Khmer ភេ (phei), Mon ဖေံ, Vietnamese rái.

Vietic and Katuic are probably conservative in their preservation of -s- - reflecting ancestral medial -ɕ-, which other branches debuccalized into -h-.
