From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Anglo-Norman plover, pluvier, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French plovier, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin plovarius, pluviārius, of disputed origin; perhaps from Latin pluvia (rain).
