Etymology

Partly from erroneous abbreviation of the fuller forms within English, and partly from the Koine and (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Byzantine Greek πνεῠμο- (pneumo-), a rare combining form of both the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek πνεῠ́μων (pneúmōn, lung) and the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek πνεῦμᾰ (pneûma, air”, “wind”, “breath”, “spirit); compare the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German, and post-Classical Latin pneumo- ⁽ᶠʳ⁾ ⁽ᵈᵉ⁾ ⁽ˡᵃ⁾.
