Etymology[edit]

From Persian کند(kand), ultimately from Sanskrit खण्ड (khaṇḍa, candied sugar), root खण्ड् (khaṇḍ, to divide, break into pieces), or from Proto-Dravidian *kaṇṭu; compare Tamil கண்டு (kaṇṭu, hard candy).
