Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Albanian *kerktja, related to Proto-Slavic *kьrča (“stubbed plot”), Latvian kùrkt (“to become empty (of a turnip)”), Old Prussian Churche (“the last sheaf in which the deity hides”).[1]
