Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From râncă (from Old Church Slavonic рѫка (rǫka, hand)) + -aci. Other theories are unlikely, such as a Vulgar Latin *rēnicus, from Latin ren (kidney) (cf. Spanish rengo), German Ranke (penis), or Latin rāmex (hernia).

Pronunciation[edit]

Adjective[edit]

râncaci m (masculine only, plural râncaci)

  1. (regional, Banat, Oltenia, popular, of an animal) having one testicle (after being castrated poorly)
