Etymology[edit]

From Turkish rakı, from Arabic عَرَقِيّ ‎(ʿaraqiyy, of liquor), from عَرَق ‎(ʿaraq, arrack, arak), literally, “condensate,” which refers to an ouzo-like liqueur made of raisins. Compare Albanian raki.
