German

Etymology

From French réaliser. Compare Hunsrik rëaliseere. The sense “to become aware of” is a loan translation from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] English realize.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˌʁeːaliˈziːʁən/
  • audio:(file)

Verb

Template:de-verb-weak

  1. to realize (to make real, to implement)
    Synonym: verwirklichen
  2. (colloquial) to realize (to become aware of)
    Synonym: erkennen

Usage notes

  • The sense “become aware of” may not by all speakers be regarded as natural, idiomatic German. As an anglicism it may also be frowned upon by purists. This sense is colloquially rather common, however.
