From Proto-Germanic *regnabugô (rainbow). Related to Old Frisian reinboga, Old Saxon *reganbogo, Old Dutch *reganbogo, Old High German reginbogo, and Old Norse regnbogi. Equivalent to reġn (rain) +‎ boga (bow).
