Etymology

From rocháda, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German Rochade (castling), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German roch (rook), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Persian رخ (rokh, war elephant).[1] The original Czech expression rocháda mistakenly acquired French pronunciation with the letter "ch" pronounced as /ʃ/ (especially among non-professional chess players), which later (in 1950's) lead also to the change of spelling with the letter "š" (rošáda).[1][2][3]

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈroʃaːda/
  • Rhymes: -aːda
  • Hyphenation: ro‧šá‧da

Pomohla jim k tomu i trenérská rošáda, když na konci října odvolaného Todda Richardse nahradil bouřlivák John Torntorella.
A swap of trainers helped them to it, when the hothead John Tontorella replaced withdrawn Todd Richards.
