Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *reipa, to be connected with Germanic *raipan, *raipaz 'rope', in Old High German reif 'rope, cord', Middle Low German rēp ‎(sling, rope), Old Norse reipa ‎(to fasten with a rope), and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *roypnós.
