From Proto-Albanian *srūmā, from Proto-Indo-European *srow-m-eh₂, from *srew- (to flow). Compare English stream, German Strom (current, stream), Icelandic straumur (current, stream, torrent, flood), Ancient Greek ῥεῦμα (rheûma, stream, flow). Doublet of rrym.
