Romanian

Etymology

Uncertain. Compare Latin roseus. Probably from the verb rușina, itself from roși (turn red, blush), from roșu. Other explanations derive it from a Vulgar Latin root *rosinus ("rose-colored"), *russionem or *rosionem. May possibly be also from a Romanian *rușiciune, from roși. Compare Aromanian arushini.
